Our mandate

The focus area objective

Advance economic empowerment, entrepreneurship, cooperatives and financial literacy.

This is one of our established focus areas. Activity examples and the participant journey below are illustrative; eligibility, fees, dates and locations require separate confirmation. Intended outcomes are not reported results.

The context

Why this matters

BEAT–Kenya's economic empowerment objective includes entrepreneurship, cooperatives and financial literacy. It connects transformed livelihoods with the pursuit of resilient, self-sustaining communities.

People and community groups can benefit from opportunities to understand enterprise, cooperative approaches and the financial concepts relevant to their goals. Support should reflect local circumstances and available expertise.

Economic empowerment connects with entrepreneurship, cooperatives and financial literacy. This area considers both individual initiatives and collective approaches to livelihoods. Its public benefit purpose is to expand understanding and opportunity, with attention to local circumstances and the needs of vulnerable and marginalized groups.

Our intentions

Illustrative activities

What this could look like in practice

These activities describe a possible delivery approach. The final offer would be shaped by community priorities, available expertise and programme capacity.

Enterprise learning

Learning sessions could help participants explore an idea, understand the needs it might serve and identify the resources or information required. The aim would be practical understanding rather than a promise of business success.

Cooperative approaches

Discussions could introduce shared enterprise and cooperative principles, including participation, responsibilities and collective decision-making. Any formal cooperative arrangements would require separate confirmation.

Financial literacy education

Illustrative sessions could address financial terminology, record keeping and planning concepts. Specific content would require appropriate expertise and would be educational rather than personalized financial advice.

Peer exchange and connections

Participants could exchange livelihood experience and identify relevant learning or collaboration opportunities. Partner availability and any referral arrangements would be confirmed before being offered.
